Ok, so far you have learned how site packager works and how you can use the Commerce Server Configuration objects to create\update\modify a Commerce Server Site or its resources. In this post we will go over the Commerce Server Manager.
Most of you have worked with Commerce Server Manager and have only used it to view resource information or change connection strings, and that’s what Commerce Server manager is for. I will show you how it can be used to do more than that by adding cust

In the previous posts you learned about Site Packager and Configuration objects. Now we look at how these objects and tool modify the MSCS_Admin Database.
What is an MSCS_Admin database?
The MSCS_Admin database host all the records for an instance of Commerce Server. This means that all the sites and their resources and applications are stored here. On a server you can have only one MSCS_Admin database hosted. When you launch Commerce Server Manager only one MSCS_Admin datab

In my other post I talked about the Site Packager and how it uses the Commerce Server Configuration object. In this post let’s take a look at how you can manage Commerce Server and perform the same function as Site Packager.
More of Site Packager
We said that Site Packager creates a Commerce Site based on a PUP file. This PUP file is a Compound File and contains a structure that is defined by a Table of Content “TOC4.5”.

The following post will outline the steps to install Commerce Server 2009 (CS2009). I used this installation on my Virtual PC 2007 with SP1 guest OS Windows 2003. The installation is for single server deployment and I used all evaluation software.

I am about to finish the CS2009 training content and I have hit a road block. The snag is how to teach the installation, configuration, deployment, and security of CS2009. Why is this a snag? Well CS2009 is not supported on CS2007 Developer Edition. There are lots of blogs (my blog post included) and forum comments on how to get around the issue. In the end no matter what solution you follow none of them are supported by Microsoft. Having said that, I can’t in good conscience provide a profes

I am going to start where I left off with my last blog on MSDN Rub a dub dub, a PUP in my tub Part I! http://blogs.msdn.com/maxakbar/archive/2008/01/01/rub-a-dub-dub-a-pup-in-my-tub-part-i.aspx, well almost. Let’s do a quick refresher and then understand everything about how Site Packager, Commerce Server Manager and MSCS_Admin database interact.
A little history lesson
Site Packager is based on Site Server’s CommerceSitePkgr.exe tool that would be installed as part of the

I downloaded the CS2009 RC1 and tried to install it on my VPC system and boy was I disappointed. The CS2009 RC1 generated an error that it requires CS2007 standard or enterprise. Well I don’t have either one of these nor does my MSDN subscription as the CS2007 version on MSDN is developer SKU.
I am one to never accept defeat here is what I came up with. When running the step.exe you will notice that the files are extracted to c:\<some unique value>.
